This is one of the most popular tours on our blog, and for good reason! Radventures offers small group (max 14 guests) guided sunrise tours to Moraine Lake, stopping at Lake Louise after sunrise but well before the masses arrive. These tours start and end with hotel pick-up in Banff or Lake Louise and include interpretation, with an amazing guide on hand to answer questions and take photos!

During the tour, you can enjoy complimentary hot drinks while waiting for the sun to rise and see the best spots at Moraine Lake to view the sunrise. Their guides have photography training and can help everyone set up for perfect, fantastic photos.

After sunrise, breakfast is available at the Trailhead Cafe, one of our favorite restaurants in Lake Louise. Afterward, you’ll travel to Lake Louise to take in the surroundings, where you can get out on a canoe. Note that there is no time to hike to the Lake Agnes Teahouse and beyond on this hike.

Our Thoughts On Earlybird Explorer

Interest in sunrise at Moraine Lake has greatly increased over the last few years, especially since the prohibition of private vehicles on Moraine Lake Rd. There is no denying that Moraine Lake is a spectacular setting. We’re mixed on whether it’s worth $250 to watch the sunrise over a northeast-facing lake with little view of sunrise. You can catch an alpenglow on the Ten Peaks that flank Moraine Lake. Sunrise is also a peaceful moment along the lake, although you will not be alone as quite a few operators drop off guests there.

Radventures Earlybird Explorer has advantages over other operators in that guests are provided with a guide, coffee/tea, breakfast, and a pickup from Banff. It’s a great option for guests without a vehicle in Banff who want to watch the sunrise over Moraine Lake. Think of this as a tour, not a source of transportation like many of the other operators who drop guests off at Moraine Lake. We’d say the tour is worth it for the right traveler.
