The Town of Canmore
A Former Secret Gem
Canmore offers a far more relaxed base from which to visit the Canadian Rockies and is often considered the “locals” town with a vibrant year-round population. The former coal mine town is now home to climbers, athletes, and an active community. Since hosting the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, the town has become a resort community with many visitor services.
It’s arguably one of the most beautiful towns in the world, and an afternoon spent strolling the Bow River never feels dull. The valley, carved by glaciers during the ice age, is dramatic, with high mountain walls that flank the town. We often see visitors snapping photos from the local market parking lot because the views here are surreal. Canmore is a dream destination for outdoor fanatics.
