Have you ever dreamed of horseback riding in Banff after watching City Slickers, Yellowstone, Heartland, or Western movies? Banff Trail Riders offers tours that offer some of the best riding in Banff.

From one-hour to multi-day tours, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the park the old-fashioned way. These tours are great for beginners and novice equestrians.

Banff Horseback Tours Overview

  • Who: Banff Trail Riders
  • Where: Meet at Banff Trail Riders Stables (100 Sundance Rd,) or Corrals. Pay attention to meeting point when booking.
  • Inclusions: Lead and tail guides, helmet, Use of horse, basic horseback riding instruction.
  • Check in 30 minutes prior to your tour time.
  • Riders must wear long pants and sturdy closed-toed shoes that are enclosed to the ankle—no open-toe shoes or shoes with big heels.

1 Hour Bow River Ride

This one-hour ride along the Bow River is ideal for beginner horseback riders that want to take in the mountain views in a new way. It’s easily the most popular horseback riding tour in Banff, so we recommend reserving in advance.

This tour departs from Banff Trail Riders Stables at 100 Sundance Rd.

1 Hour Spray River Ride

A great intro tour to horseback riding. Highlights include a first-hand peek at Bow Falls and its surrounding mountain range and a chance to lead your horse across Spray River.

The Spray River Ride meeting point is at the Banff Springs Corrals in Banff, located near the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel on Spray Ave, behind the tennis courts.

2 Hour Banff Horseback Riding Adventure

This tour is great for those wanting a longer horseback experience. On the tour, pass by the Cave and Basin and then continue along the tranquil Bow River as you climb portions of the Bow River. Then continue up to Windy Knoll to take stunning photos.

This tour leaves from Banff Trail Riders Stables at 100 Sundance Rd.

4 Hour Sulphur Mountain Horseback Ride

This route is reserved for those who want a longer half day experience. Ride along the base of Mount Rundle through the Spray Valley for four hours at a leisurely pace. This tour leaves at Banff Trail Riders – Corrals on Spray Ave.

Covered Wagon Ride in Banff with Western Cookout

The most popular horsetour is this two-hour wagon ride through Banff National Park. Take in the scenery from the wagon and stop at 3 Mile Cabin for a full-on cowboy BBQ that includes an 8-oz AAA steak and homemade baked beans.

During the tour, the cowboys might even show you a few cowboy games. This tour is great for young families! Note that this is a wagon ride and no guests will be horseback riding.

Multi-Day Tour to Sundance Lodge

This one-night/two-day tour takes visitors deep into the backcountry via horseback to Sundance Lodge, one of our favorite cabins in Banff.

Along the route you’ll pass beautiful rivers and creeks and stunning scenery. Once you reach Sundance Lodge you’ll be wined and dined with fantastic food and drinks, all while sitting around the fire! This tour includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a professional guide, and an overnight stay!
