Best Banff Hotels with Air Conditioning
It’s not commonly known to visitors that having air conditioning in Banff isn’t a given – it’s a luxury. In fact, most homes in the Canadian Rockies do not even have air conditioning! In the mountains, air conditioning is only needed a few times a year – usually when it gets hot in July and August, which is when you may seek it the most.
If you need air conditioning to sleep, it’s important to look for a hotel that offers it. That means paying attention to your booking, and making sure it is in the booking details. Nowadays, with rising global temperatures, more hotels are building with air con in mind.
Our Favorite Banff Hotels with AC
Moose Hotel
The 4-star Moose Hotel & Suites is situated only minutes from the center of Banff, so you can easily walk into town and enjoy the services and attractions available. What we love about The Moose is the indoor pool, and TWO rooftop hot pools with views in all directions.
Guests will find many amenities here, including air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, coffeemakers, and safes.
Mount Royal Hotel
The Mount Royal Hotel is a historic hotel dating back to 1908, but you wouldn’t know it as you step inside, as it has been beautifully renovated. It is located at the very center of Banff, so you can easily access everything via a short walk.
Rooms here are modern, clean, and comfortable, and all of them feature air conditioning. Beds are luxurious and the perfect way to recharge after a day tackling the mountains.
Inside the rooms are a large flat-screen TV, a desk, a mini-fridge, toiletries, and high-speed internet. There are two beautiful rooftop hot tubs looking out toward Mount Rundle, and bonus – the hotel is connected to one of the best restaurants in Banff – Brazen.
Fairmont Banff Springs
No hotel in Banff National Park is more iconic than the long-standing Banff Springs Hotel. It’s one of the best hotels in Banff, and for a good reason. When you glimpse this grand landmark for the first time, you’ll see why it’s known as TheCastle of the Rockies. The hotel has seen guests from all over the world for more than 100 years.
As the highest-end hotel in all of Banff, you can bet it has air conditioning in every single room.
Moxy Hotel
The Moxy Banff is a great option for Marriott loyalists who have points to redeem. Rooms have been recently renovated to give a distinct mountain feel, with some even featuring old chairlifts (for the ski bums!). All rooms have AC and either a king bed or two queen beds.
Canalta Lodge
Canalta Lodge is the most “basic” hotel in Banff on this list, though its summer rates wouldn’t suggest there is anything basic about it. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something no-frills but still has AC in every room, so you can stay comfortable on those warm July and August days in the Canadian Rockies.
Beyond the AC, guests can also enjoy the outdoor sauna or hot tubs, or kick back in front of the cozy fireplace if it does feel chilly at night. Each modern room offers many amenities, including complimentary Wi-Fi, HDTV, refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave, and private bathroom.
Juniper Hotel
Juniper Hotel & Bistro is a beautiful accommodation option, not in Downtown Banff, but just a short drive away across the Trans-Canada. This is one of the Banff hotels that is not located in downtown Banff. Instead, Juniper Hotel is about two kilometers from Banff Avenue, and six kilometers from Mount Norquay Ski Resort.
It is set on a hill, perched above the Trans-Canada highway, and surrounded by mountains. The views from their patios are out of this world, and they offer a free shuttle for hotel guests to Downtown Banff, which is great in the summer when parking is a real issue. Although this location typically stays pretty breezy, all rooms have air conditioning for those who run super hot at night.
The Otter
The Otter Hotel is one of the newest hotels in Banff, and provides an ultra-comfortable stay. Rooms here are brand new, comfortable beds, and amazing patios with the best mountain views money can buy. Every room has AC, which will come in super handy during an Alberta heat wave that seems to happen at least once a summer.
What I love most about The Otter is its rooftop hot tubs overlooking Cascade Mountain. Seriously, nothing beats sitting in a hot tub with a grand mountain in front of you. Good Folk is also located on site, which we consider another one of the best restaurants in Banff!
