How to Get From Calgary to Moraine Lake
It takes about 3 hours of straight driving to reach Moraine Lake from Calgary, depending on where in the city you are coming from. Since personal vehicles are no longer allowed at Moraine Lake, driving to the lake is not an option.
While getting from Calgary to Moraine Lake is not the easiest option, there are a few tours and buses that will get you from the city to the mountains in no time!
How to Get From Calgary to Moraine Lake
Parks Canada Shuttles

If you want to drive to Banff yourself, the Parks Canada shuttles are your best option for getting to Moraine Lake. It’s best to drive to the Lake Louise Ski Resort/Summer Gondola and utilize the Park and Ride there. You need Parks Canada shuttle reservations to access the shuttles to Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. This is a whole separate process that must be planned in advance. We break down all you need to know about the shuttles here.
If you are not able to get a Parks Canada shuttle, you can still drive to the Lake Louise Park and Ride and book a spot with Moraine Lake Bus Company, which also leaves from the Park & Ride and can get you to Moraine Lake.
Calgary to Moraine Lake Tours

This tour leaves from the Coast Calgary Hotel, which you can take an Uber to from anywhere in Calgary. It leaves Calgary at 8 a.m. every day and runs to Moraine Lake between June and October (when Moraine Lake Rd is open). This tour takes guests to Lake Louise, Spiral Tunnels, the Natural Bridge, and Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park. For $165, we think this is great value, considering it takes off from Calgary and gets to so many amazing sights.
This tour, run by Banff Everyday, also picks visitors up at the Coast Calgary Hotel and takes them on a full-day tour to Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, and Marble Canyon before heading to Downtown Banff. Once there, you’ll have time to explore Banff Avenue and Bow Falls. The bus will also take you past Surprise Corner and Lake Minnewanka!
